What Kind of Contributions Are Welcome?

We’re looking for thoughtful, experience-driven content that speaks to the realities of public safety communication. Topics might include:

  • Dispatcher wellness and resilience

  • Leadership and team dynamics

  • Training strategies that work

  • Technology and innovation in Fire/EMS comms

  • Lessons from the field that others can learn from

Whether you’re sharing a story, an idea, or a proven framework—if it can help others grow, we want to hear it.

What to Expect Next?

Once we receive your submission, we’ll follow up with:

  • A confirmation email

  • An expected publishing window

  • Light editing (if needed) to ensure consistency with our tone and format

  • A preview link for final review

We’ll also tag and promote your article through our social channels and subscriber network to give your message the visibility it deserves.

This will open a short Google Form in a new tab.

Contributor Guidelines

Target word count

We recommend posts be between 800 and 1,200 words. This allows enough depth to be meaningful while still being accessible to readers in fast-paced public safety roles.

That said, we value substance over strict limits—if your content truly adds value, don’t worry about hitting an exact word count.

The Alarm Room is built by and for those who know the field. Your tone should be:

  • Professional, but personal

  • Supportive, not preachy

  • Practical, not theoretical

We especially value writing that blends lived experience with actionable insight. Speak plainly, respectfully, and with a heart for helping others in the field succeed.

All contributor posts include a brief author bio and headshot at the end of the article. Please submit:

  • A 75–100 word bio

  • Your preferred professional title

  • A headshot (JPG or PNG, 10MB max)

  • Optional: links to your LinkedIn profile or website

We ask that all submissions be original content, not previously published elsewhere online or in print. This helps maintain SEO integrity and ensures each contribution offers fresh value.

You’re welcome to republish an excerpt on your own blog or site, but please link back to the original post on The Alarm Room.

You retain full authorship credit for your post. By submitting content, you grant The Alarm Room the right to publish and promote your work (with attribution) on our website and social platforms.

We may make light edits for grammar, formatting, or consistency with our brand—but your voice and message will always come through.
